This quick and easy sugar cookie recipe is perfect for any occasion, and can be made with just the basic ingredients you already have in your cupboard. They are soft and sooo buttery.

These are about as easy as using a pre-made mix but they taste WAY better.

They remind me so much of my Grandmothers. She didn’t call them sugar cookies, though, she called them teacakes!

One warning: These are so soft and light tasting that you could easily eat 4-6 and not feel like you’ve over done it.

Grandma’s Easy Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

2 3⁄4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1⁄2 cups butter
1 1⁄2 cups sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix the flour, baking powder, and baking soda together in a bowl; set the mixture aside.

Cream the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Once combined, slowly blend in the dry ingredients until evenly mixed.

Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls. Place onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

Place on the center rack of your oven and bake for 5 to 7 minutes (or until golden brown). Let the cookies sit for 2 minutes before removing from the pan to cool on wire racks.

Christmas Crackers

Christmas-Crackers

For as long as I can remember, my family has had these highly addictive crackers every year at Christmas time for parties, get togethers, etc… They are super-easy, super-quick and they will have you addicted at first bite.

This is very similar to other recipes such as the one from Hidden Valley Ranch. But there’s one big exception… This one does not use the oven!

Be sure to use the dressing mix and not the dip mix.

Christmas Crackers

Ingredients

1 (11 ounce) box oyster crackers
2/3 cup popcorn oil (I prefer Orville Redenbachers)
1/2 teaspoon dill
1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
1 ounce dry ranch dressing mix (1 packet)

Directions

Put the crackers in a large mixing bowl.

Combine the remaining ingredients in a large measuring glass or small bowl and whisk together.

Pour over the crackers and start turning with a plastic spatula or wooden spoon; try not to break the crackers. Stir for a few minutes so that there is no pool of oil at bottom of bowl and the crackers have absorbed the majority of it.

You can let them sit to dry out a bit, but I usually can’t wait that long! Enjoy!

Betcha can’t eat just one handful!

*** Make sure to use Ranch DRESSING mix, NOT the dip mix!***.

Simple Brussels Sprouts in Garlic Butter

This simple Brussels sprouts recipe has totally changed my mind about Brussels Sprouts! Normally my Brussels sprout standard recipe is to steam the sprouts and then saute in browned garlic butter and sprinkle with Parmesan.

simple Brussels sprouts recipe

So I figured this was just another avenue to the same thing. WRONG!!.

These are fabulous and far superior to the way I made them before. It’s the brown roasty part that is such an excellent touch. Even with exactly the same ingredients this technique produces a much better result.

It’s imperative that you use fresh sprouts, the texture would be way off with the frozen ones. I did swirl in another pat of butter.

This will be my sprout standard from now on.

Simple Brussels Sprouts in Garlic Butter
Ingredients
  • 15 Brussels sprouts halved lengthwise
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic smashed with the flat of a knife
  • freshly grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • salt and pepper
Instructions
  1. Melt the butter and olive oil in a medium skillet (over medium-high heat) until butter is foamy. Reduce the heat to medium, add the smashed garlic and cook until lightly browned.
  2. Remove the garlic and discard.
  3. Add the sprouts to the skillet cut side down, cover, and cook without stirring on medium-low heat 10-15 minutes or until tender when pierced with a knife.
  4. The cut side of the sprouts should get nice and browned, with a nutty, buttery flavor enhanced by garlic.
  5. Top with freshly grated Parmesan and salt and pepper to taste.

Melty Hershey kisses on top of pretzels with an M&M pushed into it. Nothing bad about this recipe!! Except it becomes addictive!! These are very quick and easy and a nice blend of sweet and salty.

You can mix it up by using different flavors of Hershey Kisses; there are many varieties now. For Christmas you certainly want to use the red and green M&M’s that are available during that time.

Also, these work best with those square, grid-shaped pretzels called Snaps.

Word of Caution: M&M’s are very cranky about being melted. If your oven is over 250 degrees the kisses will only harden and under they will not soften enough. Either way the M&M will be difficult to insert.

For cheap insurance use an oven thermometer to keep a check on the oven temperature when baking.

Belly Buttons

Ingredients

72 pretzels
72 Hershey chocolate kisses
72 M&M’s plain chocolate candy

Directions

Preheat your oven to 250 degrees. (Must be 250.)

On a cookie sheet, lay out your pretzels in a single layer. Unwrap and put a hershey kiss in the center of each pretzel.

Bake for 2-3 minutes. Take out and immediately press a single M&M into the center of each melty kiss.

Chill for 10 minutes.
