Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Place the butter in a 9" x 9" dish. Place the dish in the oven to melt the butter.

Beat together till smooth, 1 cup of sugar, flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Pour over the

melted butter, but DO NOT STIR!

Empty the can of undrained cherries over the batter. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of sugar over the cherries.

Bake for 30 minutes. The batter will rise to the top.
