Preheat your oven to 425F.

Whisk together the brown sugar, beer, ketchup or chili sauce, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, dried onion and liquid smoke.

Melt the butter in a small saucepan and stir in the ketchup mixture. Simmer for about 15 minutes.

Season the chicken wings with the kosher salt and black pepper. Put the wings in a baking dish in a single layer. Pour the barbecue sauce over the wings and turn them over to thoroughly coat them with the sauce.

Bake the chicken wings, uncovered, for 35 to 40 minutes. The joints should move easily and the meat should be without any pink near the bones.
